Fragile Fragments of Beauty
My work has always been deeply personally and introspective. This new installation work looks on the surface like color fields reminiscent of landscapes, flower fields or other nature formations. The aesthetics are organic and ephemeral but the work is driven by my desire to focus on and isolate beauty.
In my personal life I am holding onto things that are broken and dysfunctional, in my artwork I cut around the areas I do not want to hold onto and then preserve and focus only on what is pleasing to me. I am actively trying to control the space with structure and grid planning and yet at the same time surrendering to things I cannot control. The work is about chaos, control and choice.
These installations involve large walls of varying dimensions which are covered with painted strips of silk which have been treated with a substance that makes them rigid and firm. They change shape over time contorting into unpredictable forms. Suspended on 3 inch nails they cast are colored shadows and shapes.
